Looking to get a sound card

I've always used the mobo sound. A friend gave me a good set of 5.1 speakers, so I was curious about getting a PCI soundcard. I've heard that the X-Fi are good.
The only game I play atm is BF2142. I also listen to a lot of music on my computer.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be great. Thx much!
