Rich pointed me in this direction then Mundy expanded it for me.. so I will pass it on.

It takes a bit of time to get going but makes the whole thing far less painful.

Min skills needed:

Salvage 1 (higher is better but 1 is all you need)
Science 4

I took Mundy and Volcos's advice. I trained destroyer for a cheap 8 turret setup.

My basic ship layout is:
high
4 x salvager 1
4 x small tractor beam
med
1 x afterburner
1 x cap recharger
low
1 x cargo enhance

Of course when my skills get higher I will probably add a salvage rig to it as well.

I then bookmark some of the wrecks and turn my mission in. Switch ships then warp back to my bookmarks.

Use the tractor beams to gather up the wrecks and salvage/loot away.

The tractor beams made it go so much faster It will pay for itself many times over.
